Why families choose the ORCA Swim Trainer

Support that lets your child move, not just float.

      Trunk-centred buoyancy

Support sits across the chest and back, helping your child hold a natural, horizontal position, so their teacher can focus on breathing, rotation and rhythm instead of just keeping them afloat.

      Freedom to move

Arms and legs stay completely free, so children can properly practise kicking, reaching and balance, not just stay still.

      Teacher-led progression

Floats come out gradually, on your teacher's schedule and your child's readiness, never automatically or on a timer.

      Easy to spot, poolside

Bright, playful designs make your child easy to see in a busy pool, helping supervision as well as adding a bit of fun.

      How the graduation system works

Nine float pads. One step at a time.

Progression is teacher-led, not device-driven. As your child's balance, breathing and confidence develop, pads are removed one at a time, alternating back and front, until none are left, helping your child rely less and less on flotation and more and more on their own developing skill.

ORCA Swim Trainer progression chart, showing a swimmer moving from fully supported to swimming unaided as float pads are removed
      9

      Getting familiar

All 9 pads in. Your child gets used to how the ORCA Swim Trainer feels in the water, close to an adult.

      6

      Building balance

First pads come out from the back, encouraging core balance and control.

      3

      Finding rhythm

Front and back pads alternate out, as breathing, kicking and arm action come together.

      1

      Nearly there

Minimal support left. Your child holds their own position for longer stretches.

      0

      Swimming unaided

All pads removed. Your child moves through the water using their own coordinated stroke.

Please keep every pad you remove. If your teacher decides your child needs a little extra support again, pads can always go back in. There's no rush through any stage, and every child progresses at their own pace.

      Good to know

      Fitting & care, made simple

      Fitting reminder

The front of the ORCA Swim Trainer is flat, and the back is where the strap sits. Straps are adjustable, so they can be fitted snugly as your child grows.

Caring for your ORCA Swim Trainer

Take the float pads out before washing, rinse in fresh water, then lie flat or hang by the shoulder straps to dry, out of direct sunlight.

      Not a substitute for supervision

The ORCA Swim Trainer builds confidence, not safety. Stay close by, within arm's reach, until your child has developed strong, independent swimming skills.

Helen Hughes, creator of the ORCA Swim Trainer, teaching a swimming lesson

Designed by a swim teacher, not a factory

      Meet Helen Hughes

"I wanted a tool that supported children properly in the water, without ever getting in the way of them actually learning to swim."

Helen Hughes has taught children to swim for more than 30 years, working with thousands of young swimmers across her career. That first-hand experience showed her exactly where flotation aids usually fall short, and where children genuinely need support.

The ORCA Swim Trainer was designed from that practical teaching experience: support that encourages correct body position, builds water confidence, and helps children develop real swimming skills at their own pace. Today it's used by swimming teachers, swim schools and parents who want an aid that helps children build genuine independence in the water.

      Sizing

      Find the right fit

ORCA Swim Trainer size chart showing measurement points A, B and C

Measure your child in three places:

      1. A · Torso length: shoulder strap down to the crotch.
      2. B · Chest width: straight across the widest part of the chest.
      3. C · Inseam: top of the inner leg down to the knee.

Match your measurements to the chart, and choose the size that fits your child now.

      Size A · Torso (cm) B · Chest (cm) C · Inseam (cm)
      XS 42–45 22–24 11–11.5
      S 47 25 12.5
      M 52 28 14

Please choose a size that fits your child now. The ORCA Swim Trainer is not designed to be sized up, so avoid ordering a larger size for your child to "grow into".

Currently available in Malaysia: sizes XS, S and M, across all three colourways.

      Important safety information

The ORCA Swim Trainer is not a life jacket, flotation device, or personal flotation device, and it does not prevent drowning. It is a learning aid, designed to support skill development in structured, supervised swimming lessons. Children must be under constant, competent adult supervision at all times in or around water. Never leave a child unattended.

      Questions parents ask

      Everything you need to know

What exactly is the ORCA Swim Trainer?

Think of it as a gentle helping hand in the water, not a swimming lesson in a suit. It supports your child's body so they can get on with the fun part, moving, kicking, exploring, while their teacher works on the real skills underneath.

      Is it a life jacket?

No, and this one's important. The ORCA Swim Trainer is not a life jacket, flotation aid, or personal flotation device, and it will not prevent drowning. It's a learning tool for supervised lessons, nothing more. An adult needs to be watching at all times, every time.

What age is it suitable for?

Most children between 2 and 6 get on well with it, though it really comes down to your child's size and where they are in their swimming journey, rather than their exact age.

Does the ORCA Swim Trainer actually teach my child to swim, or is that still down to the teacher?

Still entirely down to the teacher. The ORCA Swim Trainer doesn't teach anyone anything by itself, it simply holds your child in a good position in the water so their teacher can get on with teaching, rather than spending the whole lesson just keeping them afloat.

Will my child ever swim without it, or do the pads stay in forever?

They come out, that's rather the point. Leaving all nine pads in place indefinitely would only hold your child's progress back. As they get more confident, their teacher removes pads gradually, back and front, until none are left and your child is moving under their own steam.

How do I pick the right size?

Best to measure rather than guess. Grab a soft tape measure and check your child's torso length, chest width and inseam against the size chart above, that gives a far better fit than going by age alone. Our Malaysia range currently covers XS, S and M. Not sure? Message us and we'll help you choose.

Can we use it in the sea, or just the pool?

Pool only. The ORCA Swim Trainer is built for supervised, controlled pool environments, not open water, the sea, or anywhere without proper supervision.

Do I still need to watch my child closely?

Yes, always. Nothing about the ORCA Swim Trainer changes that. Children need constant, competent adult supervision any time they're in or near water, full stop.

What colours do you have in Malaysia?

Three prints: Red Scales, Purple Mermaid and Rainbow Mermaid, shown above. All three are currently available in sizes XS, S and M.

How do I wash and dry it?

Take the float pads out first, give it a rinse in fresh water, then lie it flat or hang it by the shoulder straps to dry, away from direct sunlight.
