FINIS, Inc., a worldwide leader in technical swim products, is proud to announce the global release of its newest tech suit, the HydroX™.
When developing a technical racing suit, it is crucial that the athlete has optimal flexibility, compression, muscle contribution, stability, and rigidity.
“The HydroX suit is absolutely fantastic, I love the compression around my legs. As a butterflier, when I race in the HydroX™ my legs don’t feel as restricted and it allows me to still achieve the big motion kick which gives me more confidence in my swims.” -James Guy, United Kingdom 2X Olympic Gold Medalist
We focused on the most essential details of the race suit, starting with the fabric and how it interacts with muscle. FINIS worked with world-renowned scientist Dr. Redha Taiar, whose background in biomechanics and years of experience studying human anatomy has aided in the development of the HydroX™. Taiar’s research focused on the most important factors of a tech suit, the fabric and its interaction with the muscles and the water.
MemoryFlex™ Fabric
Our proprietary fabric, MemoryFlex™ was developed to provide consistent support and contention throughout its useful life. Rather than using a standard fabric that was woven in a two-dimensional plane, we have created one that enables flexibility in the third dimension. We accomplish this by weaving the threads of our fabric around those that exist on the X and Y plane, mimicking the natural structure of our muscles.
Interaction with Water
MemoryFlex™ fabric is uniquely constructed as a deep water repellent applied to each thread prior to the construction of the fabric. Once the fabric is constructed a second coating is applied increasing the water-repellency of the HydroX™. Although other tech suits on the market repel water, they in fact take on more water after each use. MemoryFlex™ technology is inherently thin, which allows for an increased range of motion and less opportunity for water absorption.
“As soon as I put it on I realized that the fabric is a lot different than the Rival 2.0 that I am used to wearing. It felt thin and was very easy to put on. Before a meet, I am usually trying to find someone to help me put the suit on but just knowing that I could get the straps up myself was a huge confidence booster. The suit is noticeably thinner than other suits, but it actually provides really nice compression and flexibility coming off my dive and into each turn.” -Meg Harris, Australian Olympic Gold Medalist
While the HydroX™ may appear wet after a race, the suit will actually retain very little water. Compliant with FINA permeability standards the HydroX™ allows water to penetrate through the fabric without absorption, decreasing drag and resistance caused by the intake of water.

No matter your goals or experience, swimming with a snorkel can make all the difference. Read below to learn why FINIS co-founder John Mix recommends training with a snorkel.
The best swimmers swim with their bodies in a level position so they aren't swimming uphill (feet and hips angled slightly down) and just like walking, swimming uphill is more difficult than swimming on a level plain. A snorkel allows you to keep your face in the water and bring your hips and feet to the surface which makes swimming easier. Let's face it if it's too hard, people quit.
You can swim as slow or as fast as you want with a snorkel. Like other sports, they will teach you in slow motion how to swing a tennis racket or golf club, but how do we practice technique slowly when swimming - by using a snorkel.
Swimming is intended to be a series of symmetrical motions that allows you to move through the water. So by eliminating the rotation of the head to take a breath, swimmers can relax the tension in the neck, back, and spine and enjoy their swim with greater ease.

San Francisco, CA – August 19, 2021 – FINIS Inc., today announced that its FINIS Smart Goggle, Powered by Ciye™, a game-changing goggle that enables swimmers to see their splits and results in real-time, has been instrumental in helping Olympians train and medal at the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics. The FINIS Smart Goggle is a tool for beginner to master swimmers, casual swimmers to club swimmers of all ages, and World Record-holding Olympians and Paralympians, as they train for their swims and international competitions.
“Congratulations to all of our Team FINIS 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics athletes!” said John Mix, Founder and CEO of FINIS Inc. “We are delighted that FINIS products have helped athletes around the world excel in their training efforts and perform at their highest levels. FINIS is especially proud to collaborate with our Team FINIS Olympic athletes, medalists, and World Record holders.”
Great Britain Swimmer and World Champion, James Guy, was the most decorated FINIS athlete at the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics, reaching the medal podium three times including achieving Gold in the Men’s 4x200M Freestyle, breaking the World Record in the Mixed 4x100M Medley Relay (Gold), and Silver in the Men’s 4x100M Medley Relay.
“FINIS products are vital to helping me train to my fullest potential,” said Guy, “The FINIS Smart Goggle is a game-changer. Being able to see my splits to the tenth of a second on every turn enables me to maximize my output. Seeing my finish times in the lens of my goggles without having to look at the pace clock is invaluable to my training for competitions.”
“The FINIS Smart Goggle is so smart, it’ll become the gold standard for swimmers just as smartwatches have become for competitive runners and fitness enthusiasts,” added Guy.

]]>After nearly two years of research and development, we are proud to announce the release of the FINIS Smart Goggle, powered by Ciye™.
FINIS partnered with Ciye™ (Coach In Your Eye), in order to deliver the most innovative and interactive swimming experience to date. Whether you are a beginner looking to learn and improve, a lap swimmer wanting to track your efforts, or a competitive swimmer reaching for the next level, the FINIS Smart Goggle is the ultimate tool to help you reach your goals and have fun doing it!
“The Smart Goggle is a game changer. Lap swimming and sets are so much easier to keep track of, and the social integration is a great addition to what traditionally is a very individual sport. These are now ‘must have’ for all my swim workouts, pool or open water.”
– Anthony Robinson • Former USA National Team member, and World Record Holder
Simplifying swimming through innovation is what FINIS does best and the Smart Goggle is our most powerful and versatile training tool yet. The Smart Coach is noninvasive, and allows swimmers to focus on their metrics only when they choose. The Smart Goggle is customizable to seamlessly fit into your routine so you can focus on your swim.
The Smart Goggle is unique, just like you, and therefore customizable to your viewing preferences. Depending on which information you find most valuable during your workout, customize the Smart Coach to display your preferred metrics.
“The Smart Goggle offers the ability to add another layer of expertise to my training team! So much of successful swimming, especially at the Masters level, is training smarter. The ability for our swimmers view a pace clock in their own goggle rather than looking across the pool, gives them more focus and insights on every length they swim”
– Kerry O’Brien • Walnut Creek Masters Coach, USMS & Pacific Masters Coach of the Year recipient, 7-Time 100 and 200 Butterfly National Champion
Once you have completed your swim, the Smart Goggle will automatically pair with the Ciye™ app and upload your workout.
The Ciye™ app will provide insight into your workout, from overall summary to the fine details for every workout and every lap including time, distance, pace, active, rest time, stroke type, split, average pace, kcal burned and more.
The Ciye™ app will help set and track goals, share with friends, and gain better understanding of your workouts.
“We didn’t want to tweak swimming, we wanted to transform it. The Smart Coach delivers feedback during and after your workout, giving swimmers real time insights they can’t get elsewhere. Focus on your technique, see your performance, and make adjustments as needed”
-Yuri Zhovnirovsky • Ciye Co-Founder
The design of the FINIS Smart Goggle strikes the perfect balance between functionality, performance, and aesthetics. We recognize that goggles have a fixed lifetime, so we designed the Smart Coach to be removable. This allows swimmers to more affordably replace their goggles with a fresh pair, without re-purchasing the Smart Coach. Each goggle includes six interchangeable nose pieces to accommodate a variety of sizes. The Smart Goggle packs a powerful Smart Coach, yet looks remarkably like standard goggles both in shape and size. Great effort went into making them comfortable, small and unobtrusive just like your current goggles.
“Our breakthrough was to get the optics small enough to not interfere with the purity and field of vision from just wearing a quality swim goggle. To offer a pace clock, splits, lap count and more in the corner of your peripheral vision when swimming takes the guesswork out of every swim. Also having the ability to track progress and share the details with your coach or friends adds to the enjoyment or improvement of every swim.”
– John Mix • FINIS Co-Founder
This is just the beginning. FINIS & Ciye™ plan to roll out a number of new features throughout the year. We are always enhancing and improving the Smart Coach software and users will be notified when updates become available. Upon initial release, the product integrates with Strava, for tracking and sharing with your network.
The Smart Goggle is available for pre-order April 6 on FINISswim.com to US, Canada, and Australia with arrival dates in May and will become available in other global markets throughout 2021.

Swim England has published its comprehensive Return to Pools Guidance ahead of the UK Government easing the current lockdown measures.
Five detailed documents have been created and are based on the latest scientific advice and UK Government guidelines.
]]>
Four stroke technical efficiency sessions where movement is continuous and little time needed for recovery and low heart rate maintained to avoid excessive exhalation.
Drills and skills.
Underwater work (within 15 metres) to improve streamlining and transition phases.
Using a snorkel where possible. Swimming will lead to a breath being blown out above water. Being mindful of how your face is positioned when exhaling should be considered.
In the first three to four week meso-cycle, focus on low to medium level aerobic training (not more than 50bbm or 5-6/10 effort) to avoid the need to use explosive breathing and to allow a controlled re-acclimatisation to training.
When doing freestyle, if swimmers need to pass each other, breathe to the opposite side.
Care should be taken when doing kick sets and if practical a recommendation to use the flat kicking technique with face in the water and snorkel.
If you require any of the guidance in another format, e.g large print, then please contact us at sales@swimshop2u.com and we will be happy to provide it.

USA Swimming has released guidelines for reopening facilities amid the coronavirus pandemic, offering general practices to maintain social distancing while getting swimmers back in the pool. (Source Credit: SwimSwam) ⚠️ The guidelines, of course, are contingent on following local, state and federal public health guidelines.
]]>Dear Coaches, Swim Teams, Swim Clubs and Swim Schools,
As Malaysia prepares to reopen businesses and facilities, it's important for us to adhere to the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and guidelines set by the Malaysian Health Ministry for everyone's health and safety.
USA Swimming has released guidelines for reopening facilities amid the coronavirus pandemic, offering general practices to maintain social distancing while getting swimmers back in the pool. (Source Credit: SwimSwam)
The first recommendation made by USA Swimming is that each club designates a COVID-19 liaison that is “responsible for staying up to date on community and state recommendations and any associated changes.”
❗️READ MORE: https://swimswam.com/usa-swimming-releases-guidelines-on-reopening-facilities/
The document follows by outlining how to mitigate hazards, utilizing safe practices, communication with athletes and families, and programmatic considerations. It also outlines general practices for athletes to follow before, during and after practice, including leaving the facility “as soon as reasonably possible after practice,” including showering at home.
At the bottom of the document, there are four sample pool diagrams showing starting and ending points in sets that keep the athletes socially distant. It shows how to do so with 12, 18 and 27 swimmers in a six-lane, 25-yard pool, and 60 swimmers in a 10-lane, 50-meter pool. Finally, it shows a sample of how to have a group of swimmers assemble on deck prior/after a workout, remaining six feet apart.

What makes you get out of bed every day to practice?
I get out of bed each morning to be a better version of myself. The life of an athlete isn’t very long and I want to make every day count! I get to meet new people and travel to new places all the time doing something I love, this is a dream job for me.
I don’t have a set routine before I race, I just do what I ever need to do to feel comfortable in the moment! The only thing that is fixed is I like to get to the pool 90 mins before I race.
